Application Book Reviews
|
Applications drive computer usage, the other sections of
this site deal a lot with applications dealing with coding
tools, languages, network, and cyber security. So, this
section may seem a little bare but it is being used to
contain the main applications that don't fit elsewhere.
Application Book Reviews
- The Book of Postfix
The Book of Postfix is an excellent on the Postfix mail
server. If you have to administer a Postfix Mail server this
is the book you want by your side. The Book of Postfix
delves deep into Postfix and ancillary applications,
allowing you to build, trouble shoot and maintain a
Postfix Mail server.
- The PostgreSQL Reference Manual Server Administration Guide
The PostgreSQL Reference Manual Server Administration Guide
(Volume 3), is the third volume in the PostgreSQL Reference
Manual (printed edition of the official reference
documentation for PostgreSQL version 8.2.4). The
documentation is available online, but it is nice to have a
printed version the various administration tasks that
PostgreSQL offers, and a donation is made to the PostgreSQL
project for each copy sold.
- Lighttpd
Lighttpd is one of the few books on the web server Lighttpd,
most books that cover Lighttpd tend to do so an aside.
Lighttpd focuses squarely on the Lighttpd web server.
Lighttpd the book is quite slender, but is packed with
useful information that on the whole is expressed in a very
organised, concise, and lucid fashion. Lighttpd is an
engorssing and enjoyable read, especially if you work
through the information as it's presented. Lighttpd is
highly recommended for those wishing to know more about the
excellent lite weight web server Lighttpd.
- Sendmail
- X Power Tools
- termcap and terminfo
termcap and terminfo is quite an old book from O'Reilly, but
a very useful one for anyone who deals with consoles or
terminals. The information contained is relatively hard to
find elsewhere and as the command line is the fastest method
of controlling a computer system knowing how to configure
terminals, physical and virtual is a skill that is often in
demand at the oddest moment. termcap and terminfo does a
good of explaining how to manage there two databases of
terminal information.
