Teach Yourself SQL is a fine read, there are some amusing examples that perhaps mislead a little, but they are actually accurate SQL. Overall Teach Yourself SQL is perhaps one of the best books to read as an introduction to SQL, and it is wise to work through the book at the same time as reading it, a must have book for any serious SQL Developer and is very helpful for a lot of Database Administration or Database Development work.

SQL Programmer's Reference is a handy book to have around for a SQL Developer or for Database Administration tasks. SQL Programmer's reference covers mainly Oracle style SQL, though Informix and Sybase are also covered.
